In Pensacola Bay 11 ships became victims of a hurricane in the 1500s. A massive storm overtook these vessels and became the demise of the colony which only lasted 60 years.
The French wreck, The Trinite, lies off St. Augustine and went down during a storm in 1565. You can also do some wreck scuba diving in Florida, to the resting place of the Atocha and the Santa Margarita, two ships from the Terra Firme fleet that went to their watery graves back in 1655.
