Today In Florida

Caveman For A Day

1 October, 2009

Do you like to explore through dark caves and see the amazing creations of nature in a different way? Are you fascinated by the stalactite and stalagmite formations that span throughout a cave? If you answered yes to these questions, I think it's time you take a little expedition to Florida Caverns State Park.

Explore the Cathedral, the Wedding Cake, the Cavern Waterfall, and the Christmas Tree. The rooms and caverns of this state park cover nearly two acres. If you're really adventurous, try bivouacking in one of the many caves to get your feel of a caveman's life. This is definitely a great place you'll want to add to your "to-do" list while in Florida. So grab your headlamps and let the exploring begin!

Swim With The Dolphins

21 September, 2009

Do you remember the movie and 1960's TV program, Flipper? Do you recall thinking how lucky that kid was to have a dolphin as his best buddy and to be able to swim with him? Dolphins just seem like such happy little creatures with that perma-grin and their squeaky noises.

Would you be excited if I told you that in the Florida Keys you can actually experience this for yourself? Well believe it! There are actually three different places in the Florida Keys that you can check off one of the things on your "to-do list" to swim with the dolphins. Come on, you've got to do it at least once in your lifetime and be like Sandy and Bud on Flipper. You know you'll be singing the theme song until you're in the water with your own dolphin friends.

Fly Up And Away At The Kennedy Space Center

18 September, 2009

Do you remember when you were a kid and your teacher asked you what you wanted to be when you grow up? I remember several of the kids in my 2nd grade class wanting to be astronauts. I wanted to be a mix between an astronaut, architect, and doctor. Quite the feat for anyone! My main goal was to discover Planet X. I even wrote that in a letter to myself and put it in a time capsule that I didn't open for 25 years.

What better place to experience what it's like to be an astronaut and the amazing things that go on up in space than Kennedy Space Center in Orlando, Florida? I've always wanted to know what it felt like to float in zero gravity. How about going through an astronaut-like training with your family? This is possible at the Kennedy Space Center! That wasn't available back when I was a kid. I would've been all over that!
